IPL laser for Acne

The IPL laser can treat both inflammatory lesions as well as scars. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses high intensity light source to emit polychromatic light in a broad wavelength spectrum (400-1400nm) and it utilizes filters to better regulate the light spectrum to target skin problems with minimal discomfort and downtime. It is the newest and latest technology to provide a variety of aesthetic and therapeutic treatments for acne. We feel that the IPL laser is an excellent way to treat acne and avoid antibiotics with side effects. Research shows that the bacteria that causes acne is reduced by IPL. It’s a bonus that the IPL can also get rid of flat vascular red scars as it targets the pigment cells. A single cystic lesion can disappear in 24 hours after treatment with one laser blast. But, when treating the whole face, it can take 3-5 treatments to get results. The

Fillers

Fillers are injections used to fill wrinkles and creases in the skin. These injections can be used to obtain a fuller lip, remove lines around the lips (smokers lines), give cheek bone definition, fill in the trough under the eye as well as soften marionette lines.  There are many different fillers and experience does matter. A board certified dermatologist is best trained to assess the overall health of your skin and determine the most effective filler to achieve your goals. The correct amount of filler placed in the correct location using the correct technique will enhance the facial features. Maintaining the natural shape of your facial bone structure and knowing where there is loss of fat with aging is essential. Often, patients tell us that they do not want their face to be puffy and distorted by too much filler.  We agree with them. The “overfilled syndrome” becomes a real

Kybella

The active ingredient in Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells, and reduces submental fat or the “double chin”. At each treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin, and the injection process takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile. Each Kybella treatment session is given one month apart. Since everyone’s chin profile is different, the number of treatments varies from patient to patient , however 2-6 treatment is the usual. Dr. Woods will help determine how many treatment sessions you need based on the amount and distribution of your submental fat and your personal treatment goals.

Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an extremely  effective treatment used to treat sun damaged skin in our patients. This treatment involves applying a photosensitizing medication to the skin and then using a light source to activate it.  We have perfected the procedure and prefer to perform it with a laser. Our protocol involves applying one of the FDA approved photosensitizers (Levulan or methyl aminolevulinate) to the to the entire face or affected areas for 1-3 hours. Then, the Candela laser beam is precisely pulsed onto on the areas where the medication was applied. The laser allows Dr. Woods to tailor the treatment more precisely. After the laser procedure, the medicine is washed off the face and patients may return home. It is important to avoid the sun for 48-72 hours after the procedure. Patients will experience redness for 1-3 days after the procedure and then the areas will peel for a

Botox

Botox is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic treatments. It has a very high satisfaction rating among patients for its ability to smooth fine lines, wrinkles and creases. Botox, Dysport and Xenomin are all neuromodulators that contain botulinum toxin type A, which is a purified neurotoxic protein taken from Clostridium botulinum bacteria. Botox relax wrinkles by blocking the nerve signals that cause muscle contraction. When the muscle contraction is reduced the facial movements responsible for unwanted lines is inhibited. Botox is used for facial rejuvenation by reducing wrinkles between the eyebrows, crows feet and forehead. While Botox is most known to its facial rejuvenation capabilities, it is used for medical purposes such as the treatment of migraines, strabismus, hyperhidrosis and muscle spasms. Although Botox is the most recognizable neuromodulator, Dysport and Xenomin are also effective and have distinct advantages. Healthy adults over the age of 18 are good candidates
